About The Journey
The Journey is an extension of Christians from First MCC of Atlanta with the mission of reaching out beyond the Metro Atlanta perimeter to Conyers, Covington and other areas south of Atlanta.  We believe in the call of Jesus to make disciples of all nations; we believe there are many outside of the Metro Atlanta area who want and need to hear the message of God's all-inclusive love as only MCC can deliver.  Rev. T. Paul Graetz, Senior Pastor of First MCC of Atlanta, has appointed Rev. Renne L. Shawver to serve as the Pastoral Leader of this new ministry.  Below you will find some biographical information on Rev. Graetz and Rev. Shawver.

Rev. Shawver has served as a clergyperson within UFMCC since 1987, serving three congregations in Florida: King of Peace in St. Petersburg (Associate Pastor); MCC of the Pines in Clearwater (Pastor); and Saint John the Apostle in Fort Myers (Pastor).  Rev. Shawver moved to Atlanta in December 2001 to serve as Pastor of Christ Covenant in Decatur.  She joined the staff of First MCC in 2005 where she has continued to serve.

Prior to her move to Atlanta, Rev. Shawver served 6 years on the SouthEast District Committee followed by 5 years on the Board of Ordained Ministries (four as the Chair).  Rev. Shawver also served on the Elders Taskforce on Education and was an instructor for the Supervising Clergy Training course.

Rev. Graetz was officially installed on October 22, 2000 as the Senior Pastor of First MCC. Rev. Graetz came to us from All God's Children MCC in Minneapolis, the largest GLBT spiritual community in the upper Midwest. In his 22 years of ordained ministry, he has served congregations in Ohio, Iowa, Kenya, Tanzania, Hong Kong, Thailand, India, Holland, and the Bahamas.

A former Assemblies of God pastor, Rev. Graetz joined the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches in 1993. He has served the fellowship on the committee of the Mountains and Plains District and stood as an advocate for church planning. In 1998, he pioneered a church extension in Rochester, MN and today it is a viable UFMCC congregation. He has served as a guest lecturer on "Homosexuality and the Bible" for the university systems of Minnesota and Wisconsin. He has also served as a field instructor with United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities.
